How Asker stasjon came to be
Asker station opened in 1872 with the Drammen line, and today’s center grew up after that.1 According to the Store Norske Leksikon, Asker is named after the farm and parish of Asker, which comes from the ash tree.2
A church from 1879 replaced the medieval church that burned in 1878, the station was expanded from two to four tracks in 2003–2006, and a new cultural center opened in 2004.3 According to Lokalhistoriewiki, growth accelerated from the 1950s, and the town hall moved into new buildings in 1963. The airport express trains ended in Asker until September 2, 2009.4
