How Furuset came to be

Furuset is named after the Furuset farms, which are known from the Middle Ages. Only Nedre Furuset still has its main building from the 1700s and its farmyard.1 Small-house development started in the early 1900s and mostly picked up in the 1920s.2

The satellite town from the 1970s dominates the area today, and Furuset center opened in 1979.3 Furuset was its own district from 1988 to 2004, and when it was closed it had 29,546 residents.4
