How Hammersborg came to be

The name comes from Hammersborg, a property owned by the chaplain Jens Christophersen Hammer around 1720.1 Christkirken stood on Hammersborg from 1626, soon after the city was moved following the 1624 fire.2

According to Lokalhistoriewiki, the area was cleared between the wars, and little of the original Hammersborg remains. Oslo’s main fire station opened here in 1941.3 Notable buildings include Trefoldighetskirken and the main Deichman library.4
