How Lilleaker came to be

According to the Store Norske Leksikon, Lilleaker is named after Lilleaker farm, which was split off from Øraker farm in 1851.1 Industry long lined the Lysakerelva river, and most of the old industrial area has been replaced by offices and shops.2

The Lilleaker line opened in 1919 and connected the area to the city center.3 According to Lokalhistoriewiki, parts of the area were split into villa plots from the 1870s, and in 1930, Lilleaker had 1,933 residents in 196 houses.
