The railway reached Grorud in 1854, a large wool factory opened in 1867, and Grorud school and Grorud church followed in 1900 and 1902.3 Grorud Jernvarefabrikk operated from 1917 to 2001, Grorud center was built in 1964–1967, and Grorud metro station opened in 1966.4
