How Romsås came to be

Romsås is named after the Romsås farm.1 According to the Store Norske Leksikon, Romsås was built in 1969–1973 as one of Oslo’s last satellite towns.2

The first plan was changed for financial reasons, and the revised plan gave about 2,600 homes.3 According to Lokalhistoriewiki, car traffic and pedestrians were kept apart inside the ring road, with the housing areas along walkways and footbridges over the roads.4

The original facades were re-clad with yellow brick in the 1990s, and the area is now protected as a cultural heritage site.5
